New engine in Pete’s 1958 Splitscreen finally finished . . .

Against all odds with the supposed ‘engine builder’ we have finally managed to get the supplied package into the the van and plumbed in.

The message here is a clear one – just because somebody advertises as a specialist doesn’t mean they are one!

The big 2100cc engine was bought by the client as a turnkey engine. Unfortunately for him it was far from it. Having waited 6 months to receive the engine it was finally delivered to us. The tinware had not been fitted – because it didn’t fit. So we had to modify this so all the ducting fitted and aligned properly. The carburettor linkage on the weber 40 IDF’s kept binding and sticking. This had to be removed and ‘fettled’ to operate smoothly. We had to junk the supplied external oil filtration and cooler set up fittings. Apparently cheap chinese push fittings and cheap chinese hose clips are up to the job . . .

Anyway having had custom gears fitted to the rebuilt gearbox and the engine installed she now pulls like a train!
